CHINA // OCTOBER 2016 (Day 4)

Yesterday we had our first stage rehearsal with the Orchestra – the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra – in the theatre. Before the rehearsal there was a small press meeting in the theatre’s ballet studio with Reid Anderson and our Principal Dancers Alicia Amatriain and Constantine Allen who will be dancing the title roles in Romeo and Juliet tonight in our first performance in Shanghai. Now keep your fingers crossed and toi toi toi for tonight! You will hear from us soon – until then, take a look at yesterday’s photos …

CHINA // OCTOBER 2016 (Day 3)

October 26th was a long day for the company at the Shanghai Grand Theatre. Early in the morning our technical staff started setting up the stage and the make up and costume departments unpacked their boxes – while for the dancers two run throughs were scheduled after class. At the same time our Artistic Director Reid Anderson was at the Forum of the 18th China Shanghai International Arts Festival, where he was invited by the Chinese Ballerina Yuan Yuan Tan to hold a keynote speech on “Creativitiy as the Soul of Ballet”. Here are some impressions of the day …

EMAIL FROM … MARIBOR (KRZYSZTOF NOWOGRODZKI)

Hello Stuttgart!

Greetings from Maribor, where we will be perfoming Edward Clug’s Ssss… tonight.

The performance will be part of a mixed evening with two other pieces by Edward, danced by the Ballet Zurich and NDT 2, to celebrate Eddie’s 25th anniversary with the Maribor Ballet.

As you can see on the photo, only a small group of us has gone on tour – while the rest is preparing at home for the first performance of The Taming of the Shrew which we are all looking forward to! Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

JAPAN // NOVEMBER 2015 (Day 9)

Dear tour diary …

already two more days have passed during which we worked and experienced a lot … There were (and are still) many rehearsals for the upcoming performances – in which there will be some debuts: Miriam Kacerova and Constantine Allen will be dancing Romeo and Juliet for the first time in Sapporo on November 25 … but we also had many rehearsals for the Gala that we performed last night – in front of a fantastic audience with lots of „bravos“!

After the performance we had a little surprise for our Principal Dancer Alicia Amatriain who was awarded the German Theatre Prize Der Faust on Saturday: After our Resident Choreographer Demis Volpi accepted the prize on Alicia’s behalf in Germany (because she could not be there), the General Manager of the State Theatre Stuttgart Marc-Oliver Hendriks brought her the prize to Japan on the night of the Gala. This was the perfect ending of a wonderful performance …
