Dear Friends,

at the moment I am in Paris where I have been working in the hallowed studios of the Paris Opera with Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, who has created a pas de deux for the Etoile Marie-Agnès Gillot and myself based on Stravinsky’s Firebrid. It is totally inspiring! Today we move to  the Fondation Louis Vuitton for our first rehearsal on stage. It will be exciting and interesting to see how dance incorporates itself into this spectacular museum. The premiere is tomorrow night. For everyone who wants to see it, arte will live stream the performance on Sunday, October 30th at 8:30 pm:

Au revoir et à bientôt,

CHINA // OCTOBER 2016 (Day 4)

Yesterday we had our first stage rehearsal with the Orchestra – the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra – in the theatre. Before the rehearsal there was a small press meeting in the theatre’s ballet studio with Reid Anderson and our Principal Dancers Alicia Amatriain and Constantine Allen who will be dancing the title roles in Romeo and Juliet tonight in our first performance in Shanghai. Now keep your fingers crossed and toi toi toi for tonight! You will hear from us soon – until then, take a look at yesterday’s photos …

CHINA // OCTOBER 2016 (Day 3)

October 26th was a long day for the company at the Shanghai Grand Theatre. Early in the morning our technical staff started setting up the stage and the make up and costume departments unpacked their boxes – while for the dancers two run throughs were scheduled after class. At the same time our Artistic Director Reid Anderson was at the Forum of the 18th China Shanghai International Arts Festival, where he was invited by the Chinese Ballerina Yuan Yuan Tan to hold a keynote speech on “Creativitiy as the Soul of Ballet”. Here are some impressions of the day …

CHINA // OCTOBER 2016 (Day 1&2)

First things first: We have all arrived here safely. After an over 10 hour flight our Chinese colleagues picked us up from Shanghai Airport, we stuffed all our luggage into the buses and were taken to the hotel. After the long flight of course everybody was tired and jet lagged. However, some of the dancers took the opportunity of the arrival day to enjoy the Pudong Skyline. Also the first of us went to the theatre for (optional) class and the supers casting.

You will hear from us again, soon with more news from the tour – the next days will surely be more exciting than the travelling!
